my camera has broken and I wonder if I can just buy a replacement one and fix it myself
I think that your camera is not braked physically and you can reinstall drivers and settings for it as it was described earlier. Indeed, I had the same problem with my laptop when the USB “interface” disabled the USB ports and webcam. Honestly, I would not dare to disassemble my laptop and replace the camera ever. Anyway, I use my laptop just for a job when I am traveling, but for everyday use and gaming, I prefer a PC. I ordered a Logitech C920S cam from https://vlogtribe.com/best-cameras-for-g… and I’m very pleased with it. This model provides excellent autofocus, so you have a sharp and clear frame. I recommend it.
Seems like my camera is having a similar issue. In my research I’m finding this to be an issue across the board with the 2018 advanced blade models. Camera comes up as an unidentified USB interface. No amount of bios update, driver installs/reinstalls. seem to get it to work. Not sure if it is just a faulty camera module or if there is something wrong with the USB hub built into the laptop
This is due to the FFC crack issue. The FFC connects the camera and the mic to the motherboard is folded at the bottom of the laptop. The room there is so tight that the FFC gets pressed and cracks at the folding point over time. Have no idea how to fix it since there aren’t replacement parts on the market. Even if there were, the same issue is gonna happen again over time. There should be considered a design flaw and Razer should extend their warranty to have it covered IMO.
