The latest Apple USB Superdrive, MD564ZM/A Model A1379, doesn’t have the PATA connector for the internal slot-in optical drive. It’s soldered to the USB wire directly. Therefore it’s very difficult to replace the internal drive. What’s the model number of the superdrive shown in this repair guide, please?
Hey, so better late than never I guess. I’m pretty sure the original USB model is A1270. That’s a %#*@ shame about the USB connector being soldered straight to the drive here, I was hoping for a SATA connector.
The connector is hidden under the circuit board. Any drive that matches the size, is supported by OS X and has the PATA connector should work. Once you get yours out you should see a manufacturer’s sticker on it. If this answer is acceptable please remember to return and mark it.
