I have a iMac 21.5" EMC 2428. I want to upgrade my CPU. What options do I have? I’m afraid that if I buy a too big CPU my tech board (mother board) will overheat. Where can I find information on what processors are compatible with this model? My computer came with a i5 2.5 ghz.

You have to stay with an OEM offered CPU, you can’t just stick anything in there you’ll have EFI problems. So you can go from the i5 to the i7 (though personally i doubt the speed increase is worth the cost and work). IMO you’d get more bang for your buck (and at lower bucks too) to upgrade RAM to the MAX. Iit actually will support 32 GB of memory using four 8 GB modules. Provided you keep ~20GB empty on your HD you’ll get as much, if not more, snap that way. If this answer is acceptable please remember to return and mark it.

The iMac “Core i7” 2.8 21.5-Inch (Mid-2011)2.8 GHz Core i7 (I7-2600S) benchmarks at 10248 the i5 2.5 benchmarks at 7241 So it is a nice bump up.
