That is for “needle maintenance”. Basically, you do the following to clean the needle:

1. power off the machine;
2. fill the clear white part with water;
3. open the handle and insert the cleaning unit into the K-Cup receptacle area (note the arrows should point down);
4. slowly close and open the handle 5 times to clean the needle. Note, if the handle won’t close, don’t force it - you probably haven’t inserted the cleaning unit properly.
