Hi Ask Ifixit. My girlfriend’s MacBook Pro has some issues, as the screen is showing a scatter of different colours whenever it is turned on, making the internal screen useless. It looks different every time the lid is opened, and what could look like a GPU failure. When using an external monitor the internal screen and external screen both works completely normal. I have added pictures to illustrate how it looks. I ordered a new logic board as I was convinced that this would be the troublemaker, however the problem persists. Does someone have an idea of how to fix this issue?

The output from the CPU graphics engine goes through a set of MUX logic gates which allow the signals to exit out of the two Thunderbolt 2 ports as well as the HDMI port and lastly the internal display. It’s something in this logic which is messing up the video signal.

What happens when you plug in a HDMI cable by its self into the port (nothing on the other end)?
