Hi iFixit-community I am currently setting up a repair division in my phone shop and I was wondering what equipment is necessary for everyday phone-repair. I have only done small repairs myself like simple screen-replacements or battery replacements on old iPhones and some Android phones. I am aware that of course, you need a good driver kit with precision screwdrivers and all that, but in certain kits and in the Tools Store I’ve also come across things like microsoldering-kits, demagnitizers and other soldering/wiring equipment. I was wondering to what extent this kind of equipment is needed? The goal of my repair division is to offer most reparations in-shop, in stead of shipping it off to annoying repair-companies who take months to repair it. Thanks in advance!

A good microsoldering setup is really a must if you’re serious about setting up a full service repair shop. This would include soldering iron, hot air station, microscope, then some optionals like an electric desoldering gun, board preheater, hot tweezers. Also, an ultrasonic cleaner for cleaning boards as well as treating water damage. A heating mat for removing screens intact screens without breaking them and making removal of broken ones easier. If you want to get real serious then a dc power supply and oscilloscope for board troubleshooting. I’m sure I’m forgetting several things. Of course, you’ll need to make sure that you or your techs are properly trained to use all this stuff or it wont be of any good to you
