What if you dropped it in fresh water. specifically, I fell into an inflatable pool full of water playing catch with a friend. My phone was only in the water for about 5 seconds. We immediately put it in rice. it still worked after we took it out. But after 1 hour it showed the apple logo and then shut off multiple times. It is currently charging right now, but it won’t turn on. What should I do?
@matthewhoopes03 you proceed the same way way as any other device that was submerged. Let me start off by saying that “rice is about the equivalent of doing nothing. It will not prevent corrosion and will not fix your phone. What it does is provide you with a false sense of doing something. Most corroded phones are the ones that where placed in rice. I suggest that the very first thing you want to do is to not try to restart, charge, or sync the phone. This may further damage your phone. The next step is to clean it properly. Disassemble your phone using these guides Once it is disassembled, you must remove all the EMI shields or you do not clean the largest percentage of the board. You will need high grade isopropyl alcohol (90%+) and a soft brush. Use this guide to see how to clean it. Even so it was written for a 3G all the points are still pertinent to your phone. While you are cleaning it, check for any broken, missing or burned looking components. When it is properly cleaned, replace the battery. All these steps are to avoid delayed failure caused by corrosion. Once all this is done, reassemble your phone and reevaluate. Best way of cleaning would of course be with an ultrasonic cleaner.
