I have imac emc 2389 and need to change hard drive! Can i get one for this? What would be compatible?
Yes! You can upgrade or replace your dead drive! Here’s the IFIXIT guide on how: iMac Intel 21.5" EMC 2389 Hard Drive Replacement Now the details!! First your system only has SATA II (3.0 Gb/s) for your HD & optical drive ports. So what ever drive you get needs to support this older SATA I/O speed. Next your system has a 3.5” HD drive. So you could replace it with another 3.5” drive. Your choices are a standard HD or a better hybrid SSHD drive. Likewise, you could put in a SSD drive but they only come in 2.5” size so you would need an adapter frame to hold it where your 3.5” drive is mounted. The last piece of the puzzle is your system leveraged an internal thermal sensor within the HD to manage the systems cooling so when you replace the drive you need to make allowances for this now being removed. Luckily! OWC has an external sensor which will take over this role OWC In-line Digital Thermal Sensor for iMac Late 2009 - Mid 2010 Hard Drive Upgrade. As for the drives, these are the ones I would recommend: Seagate FireCuda 3.5” SSHDSamsung 860 EVO SSD For the SSD you’ll need a 2.5” to 3.5” adapter frame. Both these drives support SATA II (3.0 Gb/s) systems. If you decide to use a different drive make sure the spec sheet lists SATA II support (by name or by I/O data rate). If it doesn’t then you’ll need to find a different drive.
Hello Both. I also need to update my Harddrive for my 2010 Imac, I’m just wondering if I go for the 3.5" Firecuda would I be required to purchase any other cables or adapters to fit it to the system? Will.
