I accidentally got the display part of my macbook wet and now after its been on for a minute or two, the display gets lines all through it and I can’t see anything. The picture is fine when I hook it up to a desktop monitor, so I’m thinking maybe I need to replace the whole top of my macbook. That’s like $400+. Is it possible there’s a part INSIDE that needs replacing instead or would I be safer just to replace the whole display?
Liquid damage is not easy to fix! For now I would strongly recommend you shutdown your system and leave it off! If you have the ability to take the bottom cover off I would recommend doing that and disconnecting the battery ASAP! Why the concern? What you spilled won’t evaporate cleanly! Just think of spilling milk or coffee while the water will evaporate what is leave is still there acids and corrosive salts slowly eating into your logic board and killing your components. If its still wet and you power it up you could create a short which will also damage things. OK, what to do you’ll need to find someone with the needed skills to take your system apart carefully to clean out any standing liquids and clean any residuals. Hopefully the damage has not gotten too far.
