Hello, i have a emc2496edu imac and it has a dual core i3 with 256mb AMD Radeon HD 6750M is there a compatible graphics card and cpu for this upgrade? i would 4 cores and and at least a 1gb graphics card. and also is there a firmware patch i can use to get mac os mojave to run on it?

So what should i do at this point? Should i replace the logic board with a late 21.5inch 2012 imac logic board? Would that Even work? Or should I just sell my imac and put the money towards a new one?

Hi Zachary,

The best option is to find some replacement parts pulled from old iMacs, though upgrading CPU to run Mojave, isn’t possible. Too many power draw issues.

Zachary - You should go back to your original question as the answer is there as far as upgrading your system. You can install either a i5 or i7 CPU. What cpu can I upgrade my iMac to? As far as sliding in a 2012 logic board, sorry thats not possible! Apple altered the 21.5 system design quite radically in 2012. An alternative to upgrading the CPU & GPU board is to replace the full logic board with the 2011 21.5” iMac with either a i5 or i7 logic board within this series iMac12,1
