Hi fellas, we recently bought a 1988 Chevrolet G20 camper Van and we were having to wiggle the key to get the ignition to turn over but once we get it to turn it cranks just fine. Today, after trying for hours, we can’t get it to turn over, we tried turning the wheel, we tried getting a new key thinking the key was worn out but it still won’t turn over now. Any ideas on what it could be?
You need a new lock cylinder. I don’t know all the specifics about your vehicle (like engine size etc) but I did a search based off what info was provided. You’re looking at $20 or less at an auto parts store. I’ve posted a pic so you can see what I’m talking about. The cylinder is worn down so the keys aren’t aligning everything as they should. A new key won’t help much because the wear is also on the pins themselves. Replace that and you should be right as rain.
