Thanks to this website, I successfully replaced the noisy fan on our computer. But what can I do with the old fan? I imagine it can be refurbished. And I imagine that’s the case for lots of things we replace. But how?
I would love to tell you there’s a home for used parts to be rebuilt, sadly only the major parts like logic boards and displays get that kind of love. Fan’s are way at the bottom. If you’re lucky enough to have a recycling center thats where I would drop it off as the plastics can be recovered.
unfortunately those fans are pretty well sealed up. what you can do is take it to a local recycling center and see what they can do with it. if i were you and if youre curious, take it apart and see how it works. theyre pretty straight forward.
I don’t throw away noisy fans. It is not difficult to disassemble, clean and lubricate the fan axis with a plain bearing. There is no need to throw it away and litter the environment. These fans can run forever if the winding is good.
