Currently run an i7 quad core 4GHz, but would like to know if I can upgrade to an i9 with 8 cores at 5GHz. Searching around online for videos about the upgrade, I was only able to find an i9 upgrade performed on a 2017 iMac. Mine is Late 2015. Is an i9 upgrade possible for me? If so, what i9’s am I limited to? Any knowledge greatly appreciated! Avery
Unfortunately, your model iMac cannot be upgraded to an i9 processor. The i9 was introduced several years after your model of computer was made. I believe the highest processor that model can be upgraded to is the i7-6700k. The i7-7700K will not work, and you cannot upgrade to an i9. If you are looking for a performance increase, I’d suggest putting in an SSD if you don’t have one already.
