Hi guys, I’ve been having the weirdest problem with a Retina Mid 2012 15 inch MBP. It’s been overheating like crazy, reaches 104 degrees Celsius. I’ve: reapplied thermal paste, cleaned the fans for dust, clean OS install, reset PRAM & SMC. There are extreme temp spikes: scrolling a website equals + 15 degrees Celsius. During boot-up it reaches 104 Celsius. After iStat Menus takes over and uppes the fan speed. What could be wrong with this Macbook?
Your heat sink may have leaked. Look for an oily type stain around the crimped end of the sink. Even if you don’t find it, I would replace it: MacBook Pro 15" Retina (Mid 2012-Early 2013) Heat Sink MacBook Pro 15" Retina Display Mid 2012 Heat Sink Replacement
