Chosen Solution
Hey guys! I’ve been searching everywhere for an answer and no luck so far. I’m getting strange Vertical Lines that show up only on certain elements on my SNES. For example, part of the bg hills in super mario world. You can see examples and the internals at the line below: https://goo.gl/photos/a1RFPZ15weqMdbVZ7 Different games and cables still have the issues. Pulled the whole console apart and everything looks normal and clear. There does not appear to be any traces broken. 62 pin cartridge connector is clean with no bent pins. The brown discoloration around certain areas I cleaned up with 91% isopropyl alcohol, thought maybe it was cause by a leaky cap but it could be flux? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
This is because one of your PPU chips (picture processing unit) is failing, specifically, the PPU2 chip. The PPU1 generates background character data, rotation, and scaling, while the PPU2 performs special effects, like the spinning Arwing in the background of your StarFox game. If you can repair or replace that chip, your problem should go away.
- Does it happen to all cartridge games in the same general video screen area? Or does it move or not there on some cartridge games and not others?
- When placing in the game cartridge in and out of the slot does the video look better sometimes and not others ? If so it is the connection of the cartridge to the cartridge retaining clips (Cartridge Mount) is going bad and you will need a new one. Takes extensive De-soldering and re-soldering. Get the work done by a professional.
Any luck with the capacitors?
