Hi! I have a really weird behavior with my MacBook Pro Mid 2015 with dedicated GPU. If I power it on WITH the power adapter plugged in after login everything is fine. But If I power it on WITHOUT power adapter, after the login process it is shutting down after 1 second showing the desktop. It’s really weird and annoying. Fortunately I also have a MacBook Pro 2015 without dedicated GPU, but that one isn’t acting this way. I think that the problem is caused by the dedicated GPU, a friend of mine with the same MacBook is also experiencing the same behavior. Please help! :-) Update (11/17/2022) Here is the Coconut Battery info
Well we can only guess, but it would be an easy fix if it’s just because of at that login moment some process may be initializing something pretty power hungry and either your battery can’t keep up or you indeed need to reset both SMC and PRAM/NVRAM. Or both. Could also be that your battery is low quality or a defective one - but let’s just put it aside for the moment. To reset SMC you do not need to disconnect either a battery or MagSafe cable - just do as Apple recommends: Shut down your Mac.On your built-in keyboard, press and hold all of the following keys. Your Mac might turn on.Control on the left side of your keyboardOption (Alt) on the left side of your keyboardShift on the right side of your keyboardKeep holding all three keys for 7 seconds, then press and hold the power button as well. If your Mac is on, it will turn off as you hold the keys.
Right after that just to be on the safe side I always reset PRAM/NVRAM - just press and hold Command + Option + P + R immediately after you press power button to turn on your Mac. Here’s an article on that too on Apple Support
Well, You are mostly a cord user! I can tell as the number of cycles you’ve run though is extremely low, yet age of the battery is quite old! One of the issues Lithium Ion batteries face is age as the chemistry only lasts at best six years if it’s getting trickle charge with very few cycles which is the case here. Yes, CoconutBattery is implying your battery still has a bit of life in it, sometimes we can’t always depend on the tools we have to tell us the correct info. So the Bottomline here is you are in need of a fresh battery, sorry. Here’s the needed part MacBook Pro 15" Retina (Mid 2015) Battery and here’s the guide MacBook Pro 15" Retina Display Mid 2015 Battery Replacement Don’t feel bad I just did one of my 2015 15” MacBook Pro’s the other month, it’s now on its third battery. And it’s reaction was similar to yours. I was processing a sizable photo in Photoshop when it stopped working in the hills of Vermont. Rebooted check things out couldn’t find any issues but as the system had been sitting a few months I had a feeling the battery was not holding power and as soon as I replaced the battery it was all good!
