Long story short, my phone went through a full cycle in the washing machine. I let it dry out in rice for a week, then opened it up, replaced the battery, and cleaned out the little bit of corrosion i could find. At this point everything functions except the flashlight, but there are severe liquid stains behind the screen. (Pics) Is there a way to fix this sort of damage or will I just have to replace the display? I’ve heard an isopropyl alcohol bath might help, but I’ve also heard that would just make it worse. Does anyone have any experience with this sort of thing? Thanks!
Most likely the liquid is between the backlight and the LCD. Backlights are not expensive and are probably the easiest part of a phone so desolder and solder. The backlight peels off basically like a sticker. You will see a very shiny silver backing on the LCD. Clean that very carefully. I find that a micro fiber cloth with no solvents works best but sometimes IPA is needed. Use it very, very sparingly. Solder on a new backlight and stick it to the LCD. Just be very cautious because any marks left on that silver surface will be seen any time the screen is on. That tiny swirl that looked fine will be there every time you look at your screen. Be careful and thorough. And don’t forget to put the tiny sticker over the part you soldered. It will short if you don’t and it can easily do some seriously damage. Its not a hard or complicated fix.
