Okay so my girlfriend stupidly dropped her phone in the toilet. Now I know water damage can ruin a phone but I was thinking that it’s possible it could be one component. When she did it, she turned the phone off and let it sit in rice(not knowing that this doesn’t really do anything). When she turned it back on, the phone was physically on but not connecting to the lcd, so the screen was black. Now the phone doesn’t come on at all so we left it on the charger all night but it’s not coming on. The phone is not any hotter so that means the battery isn’t getting charge. So I thought that’s it’s either the battery, the charging port, the whole logic board that I screwed. So is there anyway I can test if it’s the battery or charging port? I have an old iPhone 6, I know I can’t switch the batteries because they are not compatible but can I maybe switch the charging port if that’s compatible?

@adtrfrankie the parts are not compatible. You do want to go ahead and clean your phone properly. That means you want to totally disassemble it. Use these guides for that. Then remove all the EMI shields from the logic board. Clean the board with some 90%+ isopropyl alcohol and a brush (unless you have an ultrasonic cleaner at hand). Here is a good guide that will show you how to clean it. It was written for an iPhone 3G but all the points are still pertinent to your board as well. Once everything is cleaned, reassemble your phone and definitely replace the battery. That is a must do. You can replace the charging port at this time if you feel that it is an issue. Only after you do all this try to turn the phone on and see what happens. In the meantime do not turn it on, sync it, or try to do anything with it. This could make a bad situation worse since it may cause the phone to shortcircuit further.
