Hey, I have the same problem. I have 2019 MacBook Pro 16 inch 512 gb (I think it has T2 chip), and it has been damaged by water unfortunately. I took it to apple and they said they have to change the motherboard totally as CPU is broke (short circuit). but if they do change the motherboard , I will loose all of my data and files. can anyone help me if I can have my datas from my MacBook. ? ps : My MacBook is not working at all. Your help is highly appreciated.
Apple presses the point you need to backup religiously! As you never know when your system will fail unexpectedly or your system encounters a killing event like you have here. It might be possible to patch your system up long enough to get the data off (a few hours at best). It will require a lot of TLC and access to the needed parts. Basically, you’ll end up buying another system to steal the parts from (never to work again) only parts which don’t involve the CPU, T2 and your flash storage. If they are damaged there is nothing more possible, Apple did a very good job here! You still will need a replacement system to transfer your stuff over to using Target Disk Mode Understanding the Applications for Target Disk Mode So you’ll need to find someone with the very deep skills to patch your logic board and even then its a gamble and still very expensive! Is the data that important and not recoverable for other sources?
