Hi, this seems like a really great community with a lot of knowledgeable people. Hopefully someone has some insight about this! Here is what happened. I spilled water on my laptop, all over the screen part only. I wiped it off but completely forgot about the water that had pooled on the table. I left for some amount of time (15-20 mins?) then came back and realized only the external display was working (normally). It was not until then I saw the small puddle that had collected underneath the laptop. I mopped everything as best as I could and quickly disconnected everything (power & external display) but forgot to power down the thing. Then I put it into a giant bag of rice. I started to look up what to do and found that I should not put it into rice, so I took it out. Then we opened up the back and sort of cleaned it out, but there was no visible water left by the time it was opened. I left it to dry for two days and then closed it again. It worked exactly as it had before I disconnected, normally but only with the external monitor. Also, my laptop is well aware that its own screen does not work: there is only the external screen listed when I open up “Displays” in Settings. After a few days I decided to shut it down to see if this would do anything for the laptop display. Got a little scare when at first nothing happened when I tried to turn it on (charger was working normally with the green light). Then I unplugged it for about 15 minutes and tried it again. At this point the charger did not work anymore. The laptop still wouldn’t turn on. Then I attempted an SMC reset and after a few minutes it turned it on, and the external display worked and the fans were very very loud. However it did not turn on all the way (external display was black although the fans were still going), so I turned it back off. Then I attempted a PRAM and it turned on and everything was working normally (except the laptop screen) - I am typing on it now. After a few minutes, I plugged the charger in and it too worked, and now I am back to 100% power. Is there any hope for my display? Any suggestions of something I should inspect or DIY strategies I could try? Thanks in advance! <3

At this point I think you may have let it go too long to save. You might want to find someone local who can help you. If you are up to it we can try a few things but in the end you’ll likely need some parts and it still may not be back to normal. Consider the costs and what your needs are today.
