About 2 months ago my friend said he woke up to his phone in a puddle of water. He dried it off and tried to turn it on and noting happened. He recently asked me if I could take a look at he phone since his back-up phone broke. I’ve been looking around and most people said that the first thing to be damaged is the battery I was curious if I could just replace the battery and it fix the problem? Also, a few years ago I dropped an iPhone 4 in water and took it to someone and he just took the battery out and put it back in and it fixed it. Is there a chance that could be the case for my friends phone?
First, shut down the phone immediately and disconnect it from power. The longer it is on and used, the higher the risk of a short circuit and further damage. Use this guide to remove the logic board. Wipe/immerse the board as well as all cable leads and terminals with 90%+ Isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol. This will help to prevent further corrosion. Let the parts dry in front of a fan for 48 hours (or longer if needed). Once you are certain that the parts are thoroughly dry, reassemble the device and then try to turn it on. After this process is done, we can troubleshoot possibly damaged parts further.
