iMac: Late 2015 5k 27", EMC 2834. So I’m putting my screen back on and before reapplying adhesive strips, I need to take the previous tape off. But wait! I think I went too far. I’m pretty sure I’m now taking off another layer of adhesive, or I just managed to take off the foam layer and not the underlying layer that sticks to the screen’s glass. Should I continue to take this layer off or am I now just taking off like something that protects the glass panel?
Yes the carrier film is still present and on the backside is some more adhesive. Be careful here as you don’t want to damage the paint finish on the glass. Review this guide: iMac Intel 27" Retina 5K Display Display Replacement and make sure you use a reagent grade solvent to clean the surface as low grade isopropyl alcohol often has impurities which can leave a film which will interfere with the adhesion of the fresh adhesive tapes.
