Hi, I have a Vizio d58u-d3 55 inch which is a couple of years old now.. Last night I was watching TV for about 10 minutes when I heard a loud boom come from the TV and it turned off. I unplugged it, and let it sit for a day. Today I plugged in back in to multiple power sources and it wouldn’t turn on.. I’m assuming the loud boom was something inside the TV component that went bad. I got some quotes for repair but they are about 300-400 which at that point I might as well just get a new TV. So I was hoping for one last hoorah and was going to try to tackle it myself. I took the back panel of the TV off and took some pictures. I was hoping something would be obviously broken but I didn’t see anything that looked broken to me. The only thing that looked somewhat “wrong” was a brown coil on the power supply board. I attached some pictures that may be someone here can tell me something that looks out of place? The pictures are here: https://imgur.com/a/mWtsBkG
Any help would be appreciated! Thank you!
I could only see one picture at the link. From your description, I would normally suspect a bad capacitor that “exploded”. But, I don’t see one. Can you post a picture of just the power supply board? Since you get nothing from the set (including the standby light right?), then I would suspect a catastrophic failure of the power board. At the link below, you can get a power board for $30. Try that first. Dan Link: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Vizio-D58U-D3-E…
I would assume the power supply board even though everything looks okay if you haven’t owned meter or voltage meter set on 12 volts check the power at the button that turns it on the power button you should have about three to five votes on it if you don’t then the power supply board is no good.
If you have a meter, check the fuse first. If it is blown, then something on that board caused it to blow. It is strange that there are no signs of a “boom”. However, parts under those heatsinks might be fried. Replacing that board should be no problem if you can handle a screwdriver. There are only 2 connectors and both release by pressing on the tab in the center top. Just be sure the replacement part matches the exact numbers on the board. There are variations of these boards and some will and some won’t work.
