Chosen Solution
My Sony Bravia TV randomly started having vertical lines across the screen at different areas. It would appear and disappear at times. I realised that by turning the power off (standby mode) and turning it back on, the lines would disappear for around 5 minutes but reappear again later on.
If changing HDMI port solved your problem, then spraying the bad port with contact cleaner and inserting a clean (new) HDMI cable into and out a number (6-12) of times can clean the contacts. (After unplugging.) But if the contacts are worn or bent out of alignment or otherwise not making good contact the only other fix is to replace jack. The problem happening after being on for 2-5 minutes, tells me that the buildup of heat causes changes in the shape of the metal contacts in the HDMI jack.
This may be due to a bad connection to screen at edges. Try squeezing the edges around the perimeter of screen to see of lines come and go.
Change those crappy, freebie HDMI/COAX Cables. (Or just weathered out ones, worked for me, hope it works for you) Good Luck !
I was seeing vertical line appearing on and off on my Sony Bravia while watching my Apple TV. Changing to a new HDMI cable didn’t work. I had to use another HDMI port and when I turned on my Apple TV no more lines. It’s disappointing to know I lost a port though.
