Apple Mac Pro “Quad Core” 3.2 (Server 2012) Specs Identifiers: Server Mid-2012 - MD772LL/A - MacPro5,1 - A1289 - 2629) I am setting up this machine for one of my business customers. I intend to drop in a Raid Card for Mac Pro (Part #639-0108). Traditionally I would put in Apple branded Hitachi 1 TB hard drives. I really like the new SSHD Seagate drives and am thinking about dropping those in instead. My question is if anyone has tried using these drives with a RAID card and will they work OK. How many drives should I use? Should the #4 drive be an enterprise drive and use Time Machine.

Good Question Mayer! I think it depends on the type of RAID you are planning. A mirrored setup should be OK, I don’t think you want to do a striped set (3 or more disks). The issue with striping is only a part of the file is written on a given disk unlike a mirror all of the file is present on the disk. We use NAS rated disks in our external RAID boxes (RAID 10). Haven’t thought of trying SSHD’s.
