I have a toshiba satellite laptop L505D-GS6000 USB ports stopped working tried uninstalling windows didnt reinstall error code 10.. Could they have stopped working because I need a new battery?
It is possible that the southbridge chip is giving you trouble. Get a Linux Live CD, I prefer Puppy Linux, Plug a USB mouse in and boot from Linux. If your mouse works, you have a software issue, i.e. bad drivers, no drivers etc. If the mouse still doesn’t work, then it’s most likely hardware related. Should the mouse not work in Linux, but it lights up (of course you need to use an optical mouse), then it’s possible that the cable or connector to the USB port are not working. With the Toshiba, the 10h error refers to the AC adapter, so you do want to check on that as well. Hope this helps to get you started. Good Luck.
Not sure if this is the same issue, but the USB ports on my Toshiba Laptop were not working and an engineer friend said that she had the same issue and that it was a problem with the parts. I contacted Toshiba, and they immediately understood that this was a warranty issue. They said I could send it back to them and they would install a new mother board and USB (they are a unit) at no cost. I asked if the issue had been fixed in the new parts and did not get a satisfactory answer. My friend now has a different brand of computer and will never purchase a Toshiba again as this is evidently an issue that has been going on for quite some time and they haven’t fixed it. My next laptop will not be a Toshiba.
Found out out that there is a pair of capacitors, Numbered L4519 right underneath the mouse pad, that get either cracked or sheared off the motherboard because of the mouse buttons being pressed.
