BEM H2022A wireless speaker hit the floor and the female micro USB receptacle broke off the board. I am exploring how best to repair this without a schematic.

  1. replace in kind, tiny soldering work
  2. delete plug and cut in a USB cable to the battery, risky since this bypasses the charge controller, no?
  3. insert USB cable on other side of board, more room to work, and let it dangle outside the case MFR has refused to furnish schematic to ID the USB power input locations If replacement is best route, what size iron works for micro USB? Never soldered at this scale before. not worried about killing this since it is already a dead goose.

I see what you are saying, this is kind of tricky! I wouldn’t delete the plug and go directly to the battery, that doesn’t sound like a good idea at all! If you want something dangled out the side, all the power to you. I would replace the USB port on it. You really don’t need schematics for that. A lot of companies now a days treasure their schematics and will not release them. When I first started soldering, I had a cheap 60V iron (I think it was 60V). I think it costed around $20, and I replaced numerous micro USBs with that. It really depends on how much room you have around the port. Some have capacitors and a bunch of other components near it, and you don’t want to start heating up other components on accident or breaking anything. You should be fine with a cheap iron or whatever you already have. I have even used a wood burner because it had the curved tip before!

I was able to simplify because I not good at electrical stuff. I too recently purchased a 2016 Nissan Frontier and wanted to charge different things while truck was not running. I purchased a portable phone charger battery (should be 10,000mAh or larger). I fully charged the portable battery 100% in my house and then transferred it to the truck. I keep it plugged into the middle compartment USB port of the truck all the time to keep it fully charged. Then I use the “two USB ports” supplied on the portable phone charger for charging my Iphones all the time. My truck battery when running keeps the portable battery charged enough to keep ahead of my Iphone recharging needs. I keep phone charger in center compartment of truck and out of sight. I like it.
