Chosen Solution

What is the solution to using an Astro A10 gaming headset with attached microphone on the newer ipad with no headphone jack? I’ve seen dongle usb c to 3.5mm adaptors for sale but they only support audio not microphone input/output also.

The iPad Pro 4th gen offers a full USB-C interface which does offer bi-directional input/output. But you need to re-think your expectations! You’ll need a bit more gear to get this to work via a wired connection to get the input to also work through the headset. Most people just use a good Bluetooth headset to get around this limitation. But, are you sure you want to use this iPad for gaming?? It’s not really designed to support long duration game play.

I can confirm that the Apple original USB C to (3.5mm) Headphone adaptor DOES work with an external microphone. I bought a Belkin adapter that does not work. The Apple adapter apparently includes TRRS compatibility. The Belkin I bought does not.
