For a couple of weeks now my 2015 15” MacBook Pro has been giving me the “USB accessories disabled” notification about 30 seconds after turning it on after a restart or when waking from sleep. I’v been just about able to charge my phone using the USB port if I plug it in and close the macbook before I get the notification (although it dose stop charging for a few seconds before resuming occasionally), but after I get the notification there is no power coming from the USB ports anymore until I restart the mac or let it sleep for a while. I’v tried resetting the SMC & zapping PRAM, booting into safe mode, repairing disk and running hardware test. I’v also physically cleaned out both USB ports and the SD card slot in case anything conductive had found its way in there and was causing a short. But none of that had any effect :( The only real lead I have is that in system profiler under USB it shows 3 devices just after boot, however, every time after I get the USB accessories disabled notification, the SD card reader disappears from the list of devices. This making me suspect that that is the device causing the issue. Has anyone had any luck fixing similar issues or other suggestions of what I could do to fix my laptop? Or is this a simple case of damage to the logic board and I either replace the board or live without USB…?
Do you use the SD card slot often? Its possible a contact is bent within it shorting it out. This is also true with the other USB ports as well. The I/O board and its cable is replaceable! So if your issue is the SD card slot or the USB port on it you can replace it MacBook Pro 15" Retina (Mid 2015) Right I/O Board and here’s the guide MacBook Pro 15" Retina Display Mid 2015 I/O Board Replacement Have you tried running the onboard diagnostics? Restart your system and press the D key to get into it. Did you get an error?
