I’ve been upgrading regularly for last 6 years till MacOS High Sierra. Last week after I upgraded to MacOS Mojave was done and restated there was a blinking ? mark and Apple sign intermittently that means that my system has MacOS but not compatible with this system. I tried Disk Utility to repair the disk and tried to downgrade back but neither was possible! I then removed my HDD and installed another one, then by using shift, option & command + R keys on restart, I was able to install OS Mountain Lion 10.8.5 which was installed originally in this system. I used my previous HDD as external USB drive to retrieve data but unsuccessfully. When i tried to use iCloud to get data it said that you must have latest software to use it. I then tried to upgrade my system from OS 10.8.5 to El Capitan / High Sierra via Apple Store but these files are not provided on the Apple Store in Pakistan. I’m stuck now!! Now I have two problems: How to get my data on my previous HDDHow to upgrade my new HDD from Mountain Lion to 10.11 or nearest latest which can run on my system.
You’ll need to make a high Sierra or Mojave install USB. But unfortunately for that you’ll need a working Mac to create the installation USB. More info here: https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT201372 It is possible to create it with a windows computer but that is fairly complicated as you’ll need to run macOS through a VMware virtual machine.
