I bought a LaCie Blade Runner 4TB HD. I don’t have a need for the storage and would like to replace the HD with a 1TB Samsung EVO SSD and give the HD to my son. Is there anything in the hardware/ firmware that would make this a problem. I recently managed to put SSD’s in 2 older iMacs. There is no fan in the LaCie now - so that shouldn’t be a problem. (I realize that it may invalidate my warranty but I would prefer a small, quiet unit. I found a teardown online but it was just to display what was inside: http://www.tinhte.vn/threads/tren-tay-o-…
I think you’ll find buying the correct case for your SSD would be better than trying to fit the 2.5" SSD into the 3.5" frame the 4TB drive current is mounted to. As well as the size the case and the large power supply it has is just not needed here. I would leave the 4TB unit alone and use it as a media server for your house.
