so my ps4 is having a problem reading all discs i had the problem start with the old disc drive, and now it is still happening with the new one, i have tried rebuilding the database, but that did not work, so the disc drive takes a disc spins up a bit, stops then it sounds like the disc is pulled in again, then it comes up with unrecognized disc, can anyone help me here?
Just change the PS4 from the horizontal to the vertical position . It happens to me on the PS4 pro
Don’t do anything. I Just change the device position from horizontal to vertical and the problem simply solved. Try it first and then try other ways.
My fix it is quite crude and may cause further damage if not done properly. The way I fixed mine is the same as I’ve done since PS2. (Try at your own risk) Remove disc, lift the left corner of the PS (where the disc drive is located) about 4/5 inches. Then, let it drop. Do this once or twice, insert disc and listen to hear if the PS hums or clicks. If it hums, it’s ready, if not you could try it again or go another route.

You say it’s a new drive. As it says elsewhere on this site “Be aware that the optical drive is “married” to the motherboard. If you need to replace your optical drive you must remove the motherboard on the original optical drive and install it on the drive you intend to install in your PS4. “ So: If you didn’t and have thrown the old drive away, then it’s not going to work. If you still have the old drive, try transferring the old drives motherboard to the new one
Every time I put The Crew 2 disc it always says Unrecognized Disc even tried to turn it off and back on. Any tips?
I had the same problem two days ago I literally tried everything from rebuilding database to initializing the ps4….nothing worked it takes the disc start spinning for like 30 seconds and stops and says unrecognized disc that made me go insane and watching all YouTube videos and try the tapping and put it in the horizon way but nothing so I said fck it and open my ps4 and see what’s really going on… with YouTube guidance of course so I saw the problem there was a dust on the disc drive a lot of it….I cleaned all the dust and checked it took 5 seconds to know the disc I was very happy and put my ps4 back together and played my games with no problems I don’t recommend to open the ps4 urself, I had I little experience and I almost fck it up just try everything u can and hopefully something works if not just clean it in a shop or do it urself like me if u needed
Clean your disk, restart the ps4, insert it opposite the ps4 blue logo. At least that’s what I did.
Same thing happens to mine. I have to slightly hit it with my knuckles so it’ll start up playing a game or blu ray discs. If I don’t it sounds like it tries to start up 7-8 times spits it out takes it back in and then says unrecognized disc. I just tap it and it works. I’ve taken it apart cleaned the laser. Cleaned all dusts and everything to refresh it and that only option works for me. I got the ps4 slim
i bought a brand new pi boughts4 game and when i put in the system it want download and saying Unrecognized disc

i have had the same issue, was even about to open the console and clean it. Read this thread and done what everyone is saying and put it ito a vertical postion and it works. its the simple things in life

Turn your ps4 from horizontal to vertical (with the disc insert point on the upper side) and then insert the disc.. Someone suggested it further down and it worked for me! Even after all that safe mode update bs

“stops then it sounds like the disc is pulled in again, then it comes up with unrecognized disc “ I am embarrassed to admit I had a perfect identical experience, new drive KES-495A, I removed the top of the optical drive to see what was happening and I had the disc in upside-down. I neglected to remember that you access a PS4 from the bottom so all the parts are upside-down. Please excuse me while I shut down my repair business.
so what i did is: when you have a unrecognized disc error then take your disc out and put it back in. Once your disc is inserted just knock your ps twice or more it depends (Don’t hit too hard tho) once you hear the disc spinning/reading then it’s all good. It worked for me :)
Two gentle knocks over the disc drive solved the issue here.
If you replaced the parts and your ps4 still doesn’t work it’s probably dirty, as a pet owner and smoker I constantly run into these issues, try cleaning the disc entrance so there’s no resistance when putting one in, if it still doesn’t work you might as well call you local tech repair, if they can’t answer your questions you might have to pay to get it fixed
