Chosen Solution

Hey all. A couple weeks ago my LED TV quit outputting video. Prior to that, it had been sitting unused for a few months, I’d say. Here are the details: Model UN46ES7100FXZA, vintage 2012. Very gently used.No picture at all.Sound still works (both TV menu sound as well as from game consoles, etc.).As-is, the backlights do NOT illuminate when powering on.Flashlight test fails — that is, no picture at all, even TV menus.I saw a tip in a thread on another site to disconnect the Main Board from the Power Board, then power on. Doing this, the backlights come on and stay on. So it appears they’re intact. So I guess what I’m really asking is what this points to. It seems the backlights are okay, it’s just the image itself isn’t getting sent to the display. So, would that be either Main Board or T-Con Board? I suppose since I can’t get any image whatsoever, that doesn’t rule out the panel itself being bad. I’d appreciate any insight; I’m very new to TV troubleshooting. Edit: Attempting to put a picture in.

Hi @sev922 Check if the tcon board is getting power. Looking at an image of the board (hopefully it has the same board number as your tcon board) there is a fuse marked F100 125V 5A next to the left hand connector on the bottom of the picture. I don’t think that there will be 125V there, it will be more like <20VDC but play it safe and set your Voltmeter to measure >125V DC, just in case. It is the current value that they’re more interested in with the rating of the fuse. If there is no voltage then its back to where the cable that connects to that connector comes from. I don’t know the TV but in others the tcon is only connected to the screen and the mainboard, so I’m thinking the mainboard. If there is voltage then it is still a guess but you could try replacing the tcon as it would be the cheaper 1st option
