Hi, my friend gave me his old, white UE Boom 2 since he bought himself a nice new portable bluetooth speaker. He’s a smoker and also has very greasy/dirty hands because this thing currently is less white and more of an off-white cream color with black smudges and spots on it. Anyone have any good tips/tricks on how to clean it to “improve” the appearance. He said it’s waterproof but that could mean a lot of things. If I were to run it under a kitchen sink faucet and scrub it with soap and a sponge or toothbrush would that do irreparable harm? I saw a post about the UE Megaboom (blue/black) with an answer about using Windex on theirs and scrubbing and then wiping with a clean rag. I wanna take better care of this speaker than my friend since it still works fine, I just want to make it look just a little bit better if possible.

Hi @rehj9505 , Personally I wouldn’t take the chance that it is still waterproof. It may have been when it left the factory but it has been used since then and you don’t know whether any small imperfections in the seals may have developed due to it being handled in whatever manner. Perhaps start by getting some Isopropyl Alcohol 99%+ (available from electronics parts stores) and moistening a clean, lint free cloth with it and gently cleaning the case etc. If any does penetrate the speaker it will evaporate before it can do any harm i.e. no corrosion and also will not leave any conductive residues that may affect the speaker’s operation when it is powered on. Be aware that IPA also conducts electricity so don’t splash it on and don’t have the speaker powered on when cleaning so as to minimize the risk of electrical problems if it gets inside.
