My LG TV (model 37LH20) made a loud pop then turned off. Power to the TV was still working. The answers to similar questions on this forum said to check the capacitors. Everything visually looks okay- nothing is burned or appears damaged (I have no tools to test anything). Suggestions on what to do to fix it? I’m a novice so please try to be clear in your response!
Ashlyn Norberg first will check the fuses on your power board for continuity. Set your meter any Ω scale. Unplug your AC (power) cord. Now place the Red probe on one end of the fuse and the Black one to the other end. If you have a digital meter ,it should go to 0. It may count down to 0 so give it a few sec. If it is a analog meter with a needle, that needle will move all the way in the opposite direction of where it usually rests. That means your fuses have continuity and are good.
The next measurement will be on pin 8 on the connector marked in a red oval.
It should be ~5.2VDC. Set your meter to VDC and at a voltage that is low scale. Something around 30V will work. Power cord plugged in and hands off the power board. :-) Now, your TV has to be plugged in and you can try to turn it on. Now Black probe to any ground (screws that are connected to the back panel will be ground as long as the screws are not painted. Silver/shiny screwheads are always good:-). Red probe on connector 8 (the one that says 5.2V. There may even be two so measure both.) Since you have the wires on there you may have to squeeze in. Sometimes you can use a sewing needle or similar things and place those in there to give you a measuring point. If you don’t have that voltage, your power board is on the Fritz (kaput) Let us know what you get and/or if you have trouble following my horrible directions:-)
