tv has no display backlight is working and laptop detects tv. i dont see startup screen or menu when pressing menus on remote. thank you for any suggestions

Hi, Just confirming that the TV has a lit screen (backlights are on) but no video display, is this correct? Also is there audio at all? Check the connections between the mainboard and the tcon board and also between the tcon board and the panel itself (be careful with these as the panel connections are delicate) Also check if there is power to the tcon board. There is usually a fuse on the tcon where it can be measured, just to see if it is there. No video display is either the mainboard, the tcon board or the connections in between. What is the model number if not a UA40F5500AM?

As the previous poster said this will either be (in order of probability) a T-Con fault, Panel fault or main board. If it’s the panel then there’s nothing to be done but do the voltage checks on the T-con look for the fuse and test both sides - multi-meter set in DC Volts - multi-meter black (neg ) lead touch to chassis and red lead touch to fuse if you get voltage on one side (between 12-14vdc) but not the other it’s a tcon fault - if you get no voltage on either side - main board fault. When it comes to a backlight no image fault and replacing parts, as well as making sure you get the correct BN4*-****** numbers you have to ensure you get the part which matches the screen number too - the screen number will be on a big sticker on the metal chassis - usually visible but sometimes hidden behind a board, for a 50 inch samsung the screen number should start with VES50*********
