My LG 65” TV will turn on, but only has a black screen with sometimes very faint outlines. It will then start turning on/ off every 5-10 seconds. I’ve tried unplugging it for up to 15 mins. No change. It’s mounted extremely close to the wall so I can’t check the HDMI or other cords. Will I have to remove it from the wall, get a professional in, or accept it is dead? TV is approx 3.5 years old

Hi Laura, In my experience the TV is fixable. Usual fault in this case is the power supply capacitors faulty or a shorted mosfet component. A routine repair for a repair shop.

  • you can leave it in, power it up and check output voltages on the power supply - if you have the skills. hand in the complete TV for repair. (best for the repair shop)If you are up to the task you can disassemble the TV and take out the power supply board, and hand in to repair shop. In case delivery of whole tv is impractical. Good luck with the sick tv.

@aural2013 this “but only has a black screen with sometimes very faint outlines” and knowing that LG has issues with bad back-light strips, I suggest you start there. Check the LED out voltages on your power board and let us know what you get on those. It is possible that your power board has issues driving the back lights but if the voltage is correct then the issue is most likely the back light strips. We will need to know the exact model number for your TV and if you can, remove the back cover and post some good pictures of the boards with your question. That way we can see what you see and hopefully guide you further. Adding images to an existing question
