i recently bought a faulty macbook from ebay listing it with a faulty screen and saying “it works perfectly through hdmi” i just got the charger today and plugged it in to find the macbook turned itself on without me pressing anything went on to a white screen and turns itself off after about 5 seconds then does the same. i was just checking to see if anyone else thinks that there could be something else wrong with it as if it had a faulty screen i wouldn’t expect it to turn itself on and off. I have also tried connecting it to my monitor with a hdmi cable but nothing shows up on my monitor. i have tried pressing the cmd and r key down and the shift, alt, cmd and power button down but it does not do anything. any ideas on what else could be wrong with it? Update (03/11/2020) after trying it last night i found out that if you position the macbook when the screen is down but its still turned on it comes on the monitor with the apple logo and a bar which looks like its trying to boot. i also found out that it does not charge up as i left it on charge for an hour and as soon as i take the charger out it dies. although i turned it on this morning to see of its changed and its now showing the charging symbol and not the apple boot screen. i have also tried a lot of the commands to try to safety boot it etc and none of them worked. I think i may have figured out a problem to the reason it restarts but im not sure why it only shows up on the monitor when the screen is down and why the battery is charging
I hope you didn’t spend too much as fixing this system will require a new logic board at least. Your CPU has failed, it will cost somewhere between $330 to 600 for a replacement.
