I had same issue. Worked perfectly one night, the next day I turned it on and got sound but no picture. Checked all the connections, shut down all the power, turned back on and no sound or picture, just the blue light showing power is on. It was hooked to Tivo, so I disconnected that and tried by itself, tried resetting everything again, and still nothing but the blue light.

Hi @ Susie Edwards, If you have a Hitachi LE43A509TV and the power light is blue and there is no picture check if the screen backlights are on. The screen should be a lighter shade of grey than when the TV is off. You can also notice the difference if the room is dark as you will see the screen light up. If the screen doesn’t light up then you have a backlight problem. With the TV turned on try shining a torch at an angle close to the screen to check if you can detect an image at all on the screen. It will be very faint, so try it in a darkened room to help see it better if it is there. Here’s a image taken from the service manual that shows the troubleshooting procedure for a “no backlight” problem.

(click on image to enlarge for better viewing) It states that the power supply needs to be replaced. The power supply is part of the mainboard. The part number for the mainboard is 850121511. If you search online using the part number only in the search term of your browser, you’ll get results for suppliers of the part. Try to find a supplier that offers returns / refunds (perhaps with a small restocking fee) so as to minimize the cost to you if the replacement part does not resolve the problem. As shown in the troubleshooting guide, if the TV still doesn’t work OK with the new part then the LCD panel is faulty and needs to be replaced. Usually replacement panels (if you can find one) can cost nearly as much as a new TV. If you determine that the panel is faulty, I suggest that you advertise your TV as faulty LCD panel - good for parts to try and recoup some of the cost towards a new TV.
