I recently upgraded the blade SSD in my 2019 iMac to a larger SSD after the platter drive failed (I replaced that one with a larger platter drive as well), and as I was restoring everything from my backup, I discovered that Time Machine had elected to just skip my Documents folder for no apparently reason. The platter was still in a “failing” state rather than outright failed, so I’m thinking if I can connect both drives via an adapter, I can potentially mount the original fusion volume and recover the data. I already have a SATA adapter for the platter drive, but I’m wondering if an adapter exists for the specific proprietary connector on the iMac blade SSD to USB. Or really any way I can read this drive short of sticking it back in my iMac.
I would contact OWC to see if their adapter case will work. OWC Envoy Pro Portable, Bus-Powered USB 3.0 Storage Enclosurefor select Apple Flash SSDs from most 2013 to 2015 Mac Models It maybe just an issue with lack of testing as I’m sure the demand for the case has dropped off as most people who needed it was MacBook Pro owners.
