Will be running just fine, then will die, almost like it’s running out of gas
It would be good if you can tell us the year and engine size and if it has Spark or no Spark, Fuel or no Fuel, when you crank it over and if it starts right up after it dies. I’m hoping it’s a 97 1500 with a 5.7L. Those trucks have four common no start or stall failures. One you already replaced is the fuel pump but generally they give you hard starts and no power when they are failing. Your failure is most likely the distributor pick up or ignition module but don’t replace them individually. Replace the Distributor as a unit because the distributor shaft is most likely caked up and becoming difficult to turn and it comes complete with the module, the pick up, the cap and rotor AND it is only about $80.00. You don’t really need to buy a $200.00 plus Delco, but you need to set the Distributor back in, in the correct position (the rotor aming to the exact same position the old distributor came out) and reset the ignition timing or cam/crank snyc. So you many need a timing light or you may need a diagnostic scanner (not a code reader). The third area is the Ignition Coil. The fourth area is the Ignition Coil Connector. If you start it up and wiggle the small wire connector that plugs into the top of the coil and the engine misfires or shuts off, the wires are broken inside the insulation. The connector can be replaced separately . GM # 88987992, Delco PT1795 and many other brands all good.
