Chosen Solution
Been going through a bit of a saga trying to get my mid-2012 Macbook Pro 13” to recognize a brand new Samsung 860 Evo SSD 1TB. Short version: my maching doesn’t see it. SATA cable has been replaced (twice by Genius Bar trying to troubleshoot). The drive works fine/is seen as an external in an enclosure connected via USB, and I can boot from it in safe mode. I installed the hard drive on my retired identical Macbook and it started up right away booting from the SSD drive. So… Why is my current machine not able to see the drive? Have tried all restarts/reboots/safe mode startups. Any ideas? Thanks much!
Was operating system are you running? If High Sierra or above your internal drive may have been converted to APFS. HOW was the the 860 formatted.
