hi everybody i need your experience for my project. my imac 2011 27 inch graphic card is broken. instead of replacing the graphic card. i want to put good laptop motherboard and solder all components. imac is getting too hot inside in my area also. its no good for here. i want components of imac as much as i can. my question is which components i can use without problem. webcam, microphone, speakers,power supply, power button, censors, even heatsink, fans, ,,, of course i want to use screen also. many thanks for the help
Sadly like Oil & Water they don’t mix ;-} There really isn’t any way to do this. The best you could do is strip the system down into a dedicated display using a LVDS to VGA connection unit. Then just attach your laptop to it.
The iMac can be covered into a monitor if you are interested let me know.
I think you are about to make a big mistake. I would replace your graphics card, and then upgrade the memory and Hard Drive (to an SSD). Unless you are very skilled at working with electronic devices, having and reading schematics and soldering to surface mount devices/connectors, making cables, etc., I would not cannibalize/hack the iMac unless you are willing to loose everything. Fix it and use it, fix it and sell it, or sell it for parts.
