I have two identical Samsung Series 9 ultrabooks (model NP900X3C), both with the same problem: the trackpad has started to lift on the lower-left corner, which leads to its malfunctioning (cannot use it to click, gestures stopped working, moving the mouse works with occasional flickers). In one of them the lifting is now about 5mm, and has already progressed to the lower-right corner. In the other it’s about 1 mm, here’s a picture:

I suspect the battery pack is to blame: when I open the case and loosen the battery pack the trackpad comes back to it’s original position, and clicking it is again possible. The malfunctioning is also worst when plugged in and charging, so maybe heat and/or expansion of the battery pack are important. However, battery life is essentially fine, so I would rather not replace batteries. Any ideas on a way to “hack” the trackpad into position?

Most likely a swollen battery. Here’s a video on how to replace it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MwlU1cBF
