Yesterday, my Macbook’s trackpad started bugging out. Moving by itself, clicking and zooming on its own, hardly usable. Doing some research, I found that this is a common issue due to the battery aging, swelling, and pressing upwards on the trackpad. Although the battery only has a little over 500 cycles on it, and coconutBattery says all is well, I started looking into replacements. Being the frugal person I am, I decided to take out the battery and see for myself if that’s the actual problem before purchasing a new one, and the battery doesn’t appear to be swollen at all. In fact, it looks great aside from the left screw bracket being broken off (I bought this Macbook refurbished, so I’m guessing that’s where that came from). Problem is, the trackpad issue does seem to go away once the battery’s been removed. I’m currently writing this with no battery on the power adapter and everything’s working great. Is there something else that I might be missing, or something that I can do to eliminate the problem?
If the battery its self is AOK and the trackpad works when you release the pressure on it from the battery that tells me the trackpad cable is damaged. Surprisingly its not just a cable its got a few massive chips on it too! I’m suspecting you have a cold solder joint on one of them, but given how cheap the part is I would just replace it US: Trackpad Flex Cable Apple P/N 922-9525 UK: Trackpad Flex Cable Apple P/N 922-9525
