I have iphone 6 running ios 12.1.4, i’am having problem with touchid, i tried all the DIY things that were suggested in the websites but still no luck, my “add fingerprint” option is available and not greyed out but still after clicking it, it says FAILED unable to setup touchid. Please help.

Ok first step I would try is restoring via iTunes it could be software. If it isn’t it’s going to be hardware. So either the home button went bad or the cable that connects Touch ID to the motherboard is bad. And finally one of the connectors may have popped out, but that’s uncommon . Hope this helps

Hi @ronan0s, If your iPhone Touch ID is not working, try these steps to fix it:

  1. Go to Settings > Touch ID & Passcode > Enter your Passcode. Then turn off the iTunes & App Store. Reboot your iPhone. Go back to Touch ID & Passcode in Settings and turn iTunes & App Store back on. Tap on Add a Fingerprint to add another fingerprint.
  2. Remove and re-add fingerprints: Settings > Touch ID & Passcode > Enter the passcode of your device > Scroll down to find fingerprints. Tap on the fingerprint, which you want to delete and then Tap on Delete.
  3. During the registration process, make sure your finger surface gets scanned and try the different angle.
  4. If your finger is wet or there is liquid on your iPhone, you need to dry both your finger and your home button. Credit to www.imobie.com for this answer If you need any help please reply to this answer Thanks, John

Have you recently had the display replaced? When did this issue pop up? Did you buy it second hand and has it always been like that. There’s no real way to fix a broken touch ID sensor. It’s more likely that the home button was replaced with a different sensor making it unable to be used woth touch ID since it’s not the original sensor If you got it like that and it wasnt noted id file for a parshal or full refund (if you’re willing to return the phone) If this happened after the display was replaced it means the repair shop or you who did it has put in a new home button that won’t towkr with touch ID since it’s not the original one that came with the iPhone. If it just randomly stopped working it could be a software issue but it’s most likely a hardware issue and I’d suggest getting the home button repaired by apple or a 3rd party if they can. Hope this helps
