Chosen Solution
I replaced my display with the guide here and parts. Right off the bat, it all seemed to work properly, although the color balance is a bit different than the original. This is something I can get used to. Since installing it a few days ago, I have had probably 5-6 times where touch became unresponsive. The only way to recover is to push the on/off/hold button and then log back in with the home button. A bit frustrating. Has anyone else had this issue?
This can be quite common, usually when the phone is first turned on. Unsure if you will find a true answer to this question but maybe try a restore or hard reset, or maybe an original screen.
