Alrighty, so I had done a battery swap on this phone. Before hand, everything worked and I had checked everything. For the battery swap, I took the screen off just to make sure I don’t accidentally rip the ribbon cables. When I got done, I put everything together and the Touch ID wouldn’t work. What’s weird is the home button would work. I tried reconnecting the screen hoping the connections were off but that didn’t fix anything. I went to the extent of taking the home button off and checking to see if there were any micro tears. I couldn’t see anything that was wrong so I reconnected everything and again, the Touch ID wouldn’t work but the home button would work. I’m at a lost of what could have gone wrong. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know.
Well usually it’s either dislodged or missing components near screen connector or the screen got somehow damaged. Definitely need to try another screen as this is a common fault that is usually solved by a screen replacement.
What happens when you go to settings and try to set touch ID? I find it really weird that touch ID stopped working but the home button function still works.
Here are my thoughts looking through what other have posted. I ran into an issue where I was working on an iPhone 7 and tore the home button extender cable because the screen slipped on me as I was opening the device. It’s possible that’s what happened here. Was the screen an original part from Apple or was it a replacement? It’s possible that if it was an aftermarket part, there could have been some damaged done already and reopening the device finished it off. A few other thoughts are pinched cables can sometime cause odd things to happen but it sounds like a new screen solved the problem. There is a lot of room to play with the connectors on the screen on this model but you always need to be aware of how much tension you put on the cables as well.
Touch flex can be broken while open the phones or possible connector damage,You have to check the screw hole might me problem by long screw.
