Hello . I am using my fathers old İmac for video editing but recently I realise that computer is too slow so I went to disk utility and it says “This drive has a hardware problem that cant be repaired.”
My question is :
- İs it hard drive malfunction slowing my computer ? -İf it is . What should I do ? -Can I use external drive to fix it ?
my specs are in pictures thank you for your answers
A couple of things you can do. My first choice would be to drop in a new SSHD. Then format the drive using the original system installation disk or a retail 10.6 optical disk. Pre-Installed MacOS: X 10.6.1 (10A2155) Maximum MacOS: Current* Upgrade the system to at least your current OS X. To try to transfer your data, use a Universal SATA to USB self powered adapter to hook the old drive up externally. Now use Migration Assistant to move your data over. Second choice by far, is to back up all your data, boot from the optical drive and use Disk Utilities to reformat the drive using the “write zeros” option to map out any bad blocks that may have developed. This may or may not save the old drive but is a poor substitute for a new faster drive. [linked product missing or disabled: IF107-108-1] iMac Intel 21.5" EMC 2308 Hard Drive Replacement
