24" MSI Optix MAG24c I have a thin black vertical line in this display. Is this most likely a panel problem? a main board problem? is it possible to tell? I’ve checked the cable connections to the main board/panel and they’re firmly in place. I included a generic picture of an optix main board- I had re-soldered the power plug input to the main board that’s (bottom right corner of the picture) after it had started to come loose. As a result of the loose power input, the monitor wasn’t working before that repair. However, as a result, I’m not sure if my attempted repair caused the black line by damaging the main board or the panel- I was trying to fix it for family. I tried being careful, but I’m a novice at soldering.
I found a replacement main board for the same product line, but a larger monitor… If it were a main board problem, would that different model main board (that looks identical based on the picture) be a viable replacement even though it was taken from a larger screen? thanks for any ideas
@jfarms that looks like a TAB error. That is where the “bonding” that adheres the thin ribbon cables to the actual panel. Take a really close look at those and apply some gentle pressure on them. You will most likely see that the lines either change or disappear. That is incredible difficult to fix but sometimes some downward pressure applied by some adhesive tape etc. can make them go away, for a while at least. If you have trouble identifying the ribbon and Tab just post some more images of what you see on the top of your LCD panel. It should look something like the images I attached.
